American dirt-track and short-track racing might not hit most radars, as it’s mostly up-and-comers and hobbyists. That’s why the latest music video from Glasgow, Scotland’s premier post-rockers Mogwai is so cool. Well, that and it’s crushingly beautiful.
The nearly five-minute video for “Crossing the Road Material” captures Johnny Herchinger’s first time at Accord Speedway running in the street-stock class with his 1977 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. The music video captures all the action you’ll see at New York’s Accord and just about every other dirt track across America: dirt late models, sprint cars and some front-wheel drive action, along with Herchinger’s efforts in street-stock.
It might be hard to picture dirt-track racing working alongside the ethereal ambiance of Mogwai, but the song turns a normal night at a local speedway into a beautiful piece of art.
Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself. Also, make sure to do yourself a favor and check out the rest of Mogwai’s latest release “Every Country’s Sun.”
