Model Kit of the Week: 1969 Ford Galaxie Drag Car

The decades of the 1960s and 1970s were great times for builders of plastic model kits featuring crazy customization jobs; your Testors-scented kit-builder could walk into the local hobby shop and walk out with a cheap 1/25-scale kit of a psychedelic AMC Rebel or a ski-bum Cadillac Eldorado.

AMT made an extensive series of such kits, starting in the late 1950s, and one of the best is this 1969 Ford Galaxie kit, available right now on eBay. Most Ford drag racers of the 1960s ran lightweight Falcons and Mustangs, along with midsize Fairlanes, so a 427 Cammer-equipped ’69 Galaxie would have raised some eyebrows at the time.

We’re hoping that a racer named Gary Bumble really existed, and that he raced Bumble’s Bee with great success.
