Mercedes-AMG ‘GT Coupe’ teased again

Mercedes-AMG 'GT Coupe' teased again

The Mercedes-AMG GT ‘Coupe’ – the current alias for an upcoming four-door model – has been teased again, ahead of its reveal at the Geneva motor show.

Despite being the newest member of the AMG GT family, the new four-door coupe is believed to share its underpinnings with Mercedes-Benz models like the CLS and E-Class, rather than the bespoke architecture employed by AMG’s flagship coupe.

In this latest set of images, we can see the four-door GT in a wind tunnel, with slightly less camouflage we’ve seen previously.

Up front is the company’s signature ‘Panamericana’ grille, seen on various members of the Mercedes-AMG family, flanked by large intakes and angular headlights.

We’d argue it looks a little like the latest Holden Commodore/Opel Insignia, though we’re not sure if Mercedes would take that as a compliment…

Expect the four-door GT to launch with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, though it’s unclear at this stage whether it will be electrically assisted like the GT sedan concept that previewed it.

Without the hybrid system, the GT Coupe should put out around 450kW and 850Nm like the AMG E63 S. However, teamed with electric assistance, the power figure should push the 600kW mark.
