National insurer AAMI has revealed the results of its 2018 Crash Index, which lists the ten most common car accident locations in each capital city.

The data was collected through analysis of motor accident insurance claims across the country from 1 of August 2017 to 31 July 2018.

AAMI spokesperson, Ashleigh Paterson, said there are a number of factors linking the locations.

“All of the top hotspots across Australia share commonalities in that there is a high volume of vehicles entering and exiting at multiple intersections, frequent stopping and starting, and constantly changing driver conditions,” Paterson said.

“When combined, this creates plenty of opportunities for small misjudgements and lapses in concentration which can lead to serious collisions,” Paterson continued.

“Concentration is key, so we are urging all drivers to be mindful of safe driving behaviours when travelling on our roads, especially when they find themselves in one of these accident-prone areas.”

The results for each city are listed below, along with any changes from the results of last year’s Index.

Any surprises among the data for you?
