2019 Skoda Rapid spied

The next-generation Skoda Rapid has been spied at and around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

With the prototype clad from head-to-toe in camouflage, it’s hard to make out too many of the new Rapid’s styling details, although we can tell the next-generation model will stick with the same practical five-door layout as today’s vehicle.

Some elements, such as the company’s signature grille and bonnet shapes are also visible. It looks as though the brand will stick with its clean and functional design mantra as part of its positioning as the Volkswagen Group’s value brand.

According to Autocar the new car will be larger and closer in size to the current Volkswagen Golf. Unlike the Golf, it’s understood the new Rapid will be based on the MQB-A0 platform, which underpins the Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza.

The Golf, Seat’s own Octavia, and most other transverse-engined cars from the Volkswagen Group, including the much larger Volkswagen Atlas and Skoda Kodiaq, use the more expensive MQB component set.
