A camouflaged prototype based on the Audi R8 has been spied this week, previewing a facelifted version of the German supercar, along with a potential flagship ‘GT’ variant.
Swirly black-and-white wrap conceals the car’s fascia, wheel arches and rear end, indicating these are the areas that will get revised components as part of a possible mid-life update.
There’s a new front grille, wider side sills, revised bumpers, and massive oval-shaped exhaust pipes out the back – suggesting this particular vehicle isn’t just any R8.
Last time we saw the cannon-like exhaust outlets and fixed rear wing together was the previous-generation 2010 R8 GT, which boasted more power and less weight than its R8 V10 equivalent.
Additionally, there’s more mesh between the tail-lights and rear bumper, indicating a more powerful 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 could be nestled at the rear.
However, it’s unclear whether the entire R8 range will get similar design changes, as we are yet to see any prototypes of a ‘regular’ R8 V10 – they could come in time, though.
