2018 BMW M2 Competition leaked

2018 BMW M2 Competition leaked

The BMW M2 Competition has been leaked online ahead of a likely reveal in the coming weeks, boasting more aggressive looks and a more powerful engine.

Revealed on the BMW Australia site (presumably before its scheduled release), the M2 Competition looks to build upon the already-hardcore nature of the current ‘regular’ and ‘Pure’ trims.

According to the site, the M2 Competition gets a boosted version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight six, now producing 302kW of power and 550Nm of torque, capable of spinning all the way to 7600rpm. Drive continues to be sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – there’s no mention of a manual, yet.

That’s a significant bump from the 272kW and 465Nm (500Nm on overboost) claimed by the standard variants, translating to a 0.1-second quicker sprint from 0-100km/h at 4.2 seconds – the M4, meanwhile, claims a 4.1-second benchmark sprint.

Visually, the M2 Competition can be distinguished from the regular M2 by its more aggressive front bumper with three slits in the lower splitter which likely contributes to better downforce, along with new multi-spoke alloy wheels.

There’s also a black double-kidney grille, and wing mirrors similar to those used on the larger M3 and M4.

The BMW M2 Competition is expected to make its official debut at the Beijing motor show later this month, stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage.

We also reached out to BMW Australia for further comments, but the local arm had nothing to add at this stage.
